Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will produce a plug-in hybrid full-size SUV and minivan in 2016 and 2017, as the automaker revamps its vehicle offerings toward more fuel-efficient models to compete globally with General Motors, Ford, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

In 2016, Fiat Chrysler plans to introduce a PHEV version of its Town and Country minivan. In 2017, the automaker will roll out a PHEV version of a full-size SUV to compete with the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, and Chevrolet Traverse.

Fiat Chrysler unveiled an ambitious five-year plan on May 6 to significantly grow market share, including a plan to double Jeep production by 2018.
