Smith Electric Vehicles Corp. recently announced it has halted production at its Kansas City facility while the company reorganizes its supply chain and production plan. According to an article in the Kansas City Business Journal, Smith Electric CEO Bryan Hansel announced that although the company suspended production this past December, it is far from closing its doors.

"We strategically did shut down the (Kansas City) facility because we didn’t see value in continuing to build a small number of vehicles at the price point we were,” Hansel said in the article."We needed to transition both our manufacturing and assembly process as well as our supply chain to the next level so we could be ready to go to volume and make money doing it.”

Hansel hopes to begin producing the company's electric vehicles all over the world and will continue to operate at its Kansas City facility.
