WASHINGTON - Carlos Ghosn, CEO of the Renault-Nissan alliance, told reporters this week he expects annual sales of the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle to reach at least 500,000 units in three years, the New York Times reported.

Ghosn also projected that electric vehicles would account for 10 percent of the global car market by 2020. For the near future, one challenge will be producing EV battery packs fast enough to meet EV sales demand.

Nissan Leaf deliveries are set to begin next month. To learn about the Leaf, click here.
