CAMPBELL, CA - Cities are encouraging the use of electric plug-in vehicles by installing electric vehicle charging stations. The City of Hillsboro, Ore., will install a total of 16 faster-charge stations, and cities in Marin County, Calif., will receive eight free EV charging stations, according to releases from the Coulomb Technologies Inc.

City of Hillsboro is first in the State of Oregon to install Coulomb Level II ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations for plug-in and electric vehicles, which allow for faster charging. Thirteen Level II charging stations were installed at a "green" intermodal transit facility downtown and another at the city's Civic Center. Two more installations will be completed by the end of October 2010. The charging stations are available for public use.

In addition, eight cities in Marin County participating in Marin Clean Energy (MCE) will receive free electric charging stations from Coulomb as a part of the company's $37M ChargePoint America program. The first two charging stations are slated to be installed in downtown San Rafael.

According to the company, Coulomb's ChargePoint America program will provide 4,600 charging stations in nine regions in the United States: Austin, Texas; Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Fla.; Sacramento, Calif.; the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Bellevue/Redmond, Wash.; and Washington DC.
