Navistar will introduce its all-electric eStar commercial truck, the first commercial vehicle purpose-built to be electric power solution for the large Class 2c to 3 commercial truck market, in California's state capitol Tuesday.

Navistar, state and local officials will outline how the eStar extends California's long-term goals for clean, sustainable energy. The first California-based company will also announce how it plans to put the eStar into its fleet.

Speakers at the event will include James Goldstene of the California Air Resource Board; Lauren Altdoerffer, Green Initiative Program Coordinator from the Sacramento Mayor's Office; representative from one of the first California eStar users; Navistar officials.

Attendees will get a close-up look at the vehicle and a chance to get behind the wheel during a ride-and-drive session.

California legislators and government officials, including Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger are being invited to the presentation and to view and drive the trucks

The event begins with speaker presentations from 10:30 to 11 a.m., and ride-and-drives and press interviews from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place at 11th and L Street on the lawn outside the State Capitol in Sacramento.

The eStar had its official market launch last month in Portland, Ore., and the first customer-purchased units - for FedEx - were delivered last month for use in Los Angeles.
