FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Weiser Energy Partners, a division of the Weiser Companies Inc., is in discussions with city and county officials to get the necessary approvals to build a new biodiesel plant in Cumberland County, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

The planned plant, capable of producing 1.5 million gallons of biodiesel annually, would use such feed stocks as tree limbs, construction debris and restaurant grease. The company is reportedly still exploring potential plant sites.

Jerry Dietzen, director of Fayetteville's environmental services department, briefly talked about Weiser's plans at a Fayetteville City Council meeting this month. He said the city would purchase the biodiesel at a reduced rate to fuel part of Fayetteville's fleet.
