Enterprise, Ala., Opens Biodiesel Facility

ENTERPRISE, AL - The city of Enterprise, Ala., on Aug. 12 celebrated the opening of its new biodiesel facility that will produce fuel for certain city vehicles, the Enterprise Ledger reported. 

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley and local officials were on hand for the festivities. Riley awarded the city a $200,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to help Enterprise reduce fuel costs and develop renewable sources of energy. 

The biodiesel facility uses old cooking oil, collected from local restaurants, to produce the fuel. 

Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell said the city first started working on the biodiesel project in 1995. The biodiesel plant is located at the city's Public Works Facility.
