While my daily driver is a propane autogas vehicle, my family’s SUV isn’t. If you follow my blog, you know I often drive to visit family back home in Southern Ohio. And like many Americans, I pay attention to fuel prices.

Ohio currently ranks 38 in the nation for its gasoline prices, according to Gas Buddy. The chart below shows the state’s average over the past three years.

But in real life, fuel prices look like these photos that I took.

In May of 2011, Ohio’s gasoline price averaged $3.98 per gallon. Had I driven my propane autogas vehicle on that trip, I would have saved $45 on that fill-up.

This time Ohio’s gas was $3.86. I came home and filled up my autogas tank for $2 per gallon.

The price of gasoline may drop every now and then, but it’s quick to rise back up — and currently remains high.

So here’s your fuel for thought. What are you doing to hit the brake on foreign fuel prices? Consider fueling with domestic alternatives like propane autogas or natural gas to help our country refuse the economic panic that imported oil continues to foster.

Both your wallet and your country will thank you.
